Payment routing on the Lightning Network

Non-custodial payments
for merchants and spenders.

openLN routes payments between wallets. It takes 1% of what a merchant receives and holds nothing. Every account is owned by its user.

open source · AGPL-3.0 · NIP-47 · append-only ledger

0 sats
held — openLN routes, it never stores a balance
1%
of what a merchant receives. The only fee.

1/3
of the fee goes to the partner who flashed the device
The payment path

One fee. One place.
Nothing hidden.

When a payment is wrapped, the payer locks funds to a hold invoice. openLN forwards the amount minus 1% to the merchant's wallet, then settles the hold. The fee accrues at this step and nowhere else — every transition recorded in an append-only ledger.

wrapped hold invoice — one payment
01 · Payer
Locks funds
Pays a hold invoice whose settlement requires a secret held by openLN. No custody changes hands.
hold invoicehash-locked
02 · openLN
Routes, takes 1%
Forwards the amount minus 1% to the merchant's wallet, then releases the secret. One third of the fee is credited to the partner who flashed the device.

03 · Merchant
Own wallet
Funds settle to a wallet the merchant controls. Not a platform balance — their wallet, their keys.
NIP-47self-custody
Two sides, one network

Merchants get paid.
Spenders pay. Both own their keys.

M
For merchants
Take payments by tap-to-pay card, POS or invoice. Funds settle to your own wallet. 1% per payment, no other fees, no subscriptions.
M
The RIC terminal
Rapid Invoice Channel — an open-hardware terminal that sends and receives, and writes and wipes NTAG424 cards on the spot. Assembled by local partners.
S
For spenders
A card backed by your own sats. Top up your wallet, tap to pay at any openLN merchant. Freeze instantly if lost.
S
Your account, your keys
Sign up directly or get onboarded by a merchant or partner. No one — not a merchant, not a partner — can control your money but you.

Partner network

Assemble RIC terminals.
Keep 100% of the sale.

Partners assemble RIC terminals and print cards locally — official or custom. Every device you flash earns you one third of openLN's 1% for the life of the device, tracked in the ledger.

Under the hood

Auditable
by construction.

01
Non-custodial, mechanically
Accounts connect to their own wallets over NIP-47. openLN holds no keys and cannot move funds without the wallet's consent.
02
Ambiguity is never failure
Every payment outcome is an explicit state — settled, pending, or needs-reconciliation — resolved by cryptographic lookup, never by retry.
03
Append-only ledger
Every state transition of every payment is recorded. Nothing is mutable history.
04
Open source
AGPL-3.0 platform, MIT firmware, open hardware files. Verify, don't trust.
